Residential College sport has officially kicked off!

The inter-collegiate sports program involves participation and competition between the ten residential colleges of the University of Melbourne.

With events dating back to 1921, the program has a strong tradition of sporting rivalries and excellence that has developed into one of the University’s most recognized sports programs.

The St Hilda’s Women’s Softball Team has already made the grand final. St Hilda’s took home silver in the table tennis tournament and the Women’s Soccer Team and Men’s Hockey Team are performing marvelously!

Angus Lane and Silvestre Benavente Cartajena were superlative players during the Men’s Hockey match, with the team achieving a six / nil victory!

We wish our teams all the best during their next round of matches.

On Sunday March 31, the Athletics Carnival took place at the University of Melbourne. St Hilda’s College excelled in a variety of events with outstanding first place achievements in the women’s 4 x 100m relay and women’s high jump.

Unfortunately, this was not enough to achieve first place this year, coming fifth place overall, however the College showed formidable strength in triple jump, long jump and sprinting.

One of the day’s highlights was the uproarious mascot race, where the beloved St Hilda’s Dragon, Diego, vanquished his opponents. Diego (Silvestre Benavente Cartajena) set the competition aflame, burning through the 100m sprint emerging victorious! Unparalleled skill and another well deserved first place prize!

It was wonderful to see not only the athletes, but the St Hilda’s College supporters also. Our current student cohort truly embodied the spirit of community and successfully motivated all competitors.

Well done Hilda’s!
