Scholarships

St Hilda’s awards a number of scholarships every year ranging from $4000-$15,000. Scholarships are awarded to successful applicants on a range of criteria, especially with financial need and the likely contributions the student can make to the College.

Access Scholarships

Access Scholarships are awarded on a range of criteria to students who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College or have demonstrated financial need. Applicants for these scholarships must complete the scholarship application form as well as the Financial Assessment form to demonstrate their level of financial need. These forms are strictly confidential.

Financial Assistance

There is a process, but don’t let the paper work deter you from having a crack. St Hilda’s College is able to provide some financial assistance to students with demonstrated financial need, who have not received a College Scholarship. The support has made a real difference for many of our students. Applicants must complete the College forms to demonstrate their level of financial need.

ST HILDA'S COLLEGE HUMANITAS SCHOLARSHIP

Value :

The scholarship is valued at $100,000 which is 100% of College fees per year (maximum three years), or 50% of fees if awarded to two students.

Criteria :

Offered to a commencing student studying at the University of Melbourne who is deemed a refugee as defined by the UNHCR 1951 Refugee Convention*.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

* A student is deemed a refugee if they have been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war or violence.  A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.  Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so (UNHCR).

Academic Excellence Scholarships for new undergraduate students

Olive Miller biomedical Scholarship

Value:

Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda's College.

Criteria:

Offered to students commencing study in Biomedical Science with the intention of undertaking postgraduate studies in Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry or Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne.

One new scholarship will be awarded annually. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

Lorna Lloyd-Green music and performing arts Scholarship

Value:

Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda's College.

Criteria:

Students must be enrolled in courses in the Faculty of the VCA and Music.

One new scholarship will be awarded in annually. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

Lorna Lloyd-Green scholarship for Keyboard

Value:  $3,000

Criteria:

Students must be enrolled in courses in the Faculty of the VCA and Music.

One new bursary will be awarded annually. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

Florence Clucas Entrance Exhibition Scholarships

Value:  $4,000

Criteria:

All students accepted by St Hilda's College who have nominated St Hilda's College as their College of first preference at the time of application and achieve an ATAR score equal to or greater than 99.5.

No application is required to be considered for this award.

St Hilda's College New Zealand Undergraduate Scholarship

Value:  $4,000

Criteria:

Offered to students of New Zealand schools commencing undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne or Monash University’s Parkville campus (Pharmacy). Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic results.

One scholarship will be awarded in annually. No application is required.


Access Scholarships for new undergraduate students

The Fleur Nicholson Scholarship

Value:

Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda College.

Criteria:

Offered to female regional or rural students of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

One new scholarship will be awarded each year. This scholarship is awarded to the student for the duration of their residency at St Hilda's College. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their College of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

The Isabel & John Gilbertson scholarship

Value:

Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda's College.

Criteria:

Offered to regional or rural students of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship is awarded to only one student at a time for the duration of their residency at St Hilda's College. The availability of this scholarship for a new student is dependant on the current recipient's decision to return to college. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their College of first preference at the time of application. Funds are provided annually by the The Isabel & John Gilbertson Charitable Trust. A written application is required.

The Fellows of St Hilda’s College Scholarship

Value:

$10,200 per year for the duration of the recipient’s undergraduate course, subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year, and ongoing residency at St Hilda’s College.

Criteria:

Offered to remote, regional or rural students of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated disadvantages including financial need.

This scholarship is awarded to only one student at a time for the duration of their residency at St Hilda's College. The availability of this scholarship for a new student is dependant on the current recipient's decision to return to college. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

St Hilda's College queer leaders Scholarship

Background: St Hilda's prides itself on fostering an inclusive community where everyone is celebrated and developed as the individual that they are. In recognition of our strong and long-standing value of diversity, inclusion and belonging, the St Hilda's College Queer Leaders Scholarship recognises the efforts of an incoming (first year) college student who has contributed to the creation of an inclusive culture and assisted in promoting awareness and understanding of issues that may affect people of diverse genders and sexualities. 

Value:  $5,000 towards the cost of accommodation at St Hilda’s College.

Use of funds: The scholarship funds will go directly towards College fees and be automatically deducted from total fees owed prior to arrival at the College. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be planning to study with a full-time load at the University of Melbourne (or other approved institution) in your first year at St Hilda's College
  • Identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer* community (LGBTIQ). *In this context, queer is used as an umbrella term to describe people of diverse genders and sexualities. 

Criteria: In applying, applicants should address the following in no more than one page:

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of issues that may affect people of diverse genders and sexualities. This may be in your home community, school, workplace, club, etc. 
  • Confirmation and/or evidence of your intention to study at the University of Melbourne. 
Una B Porter Scholarship

Value:

$6,000 for the duration of their residency, subject to satisfactory progress

Criteria:

Offered to a female student from rural Victoria studying at the University of Melbourne whilst residing at St Hilda's College. Awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus satisfactory performance at the college selection interview. The selection committee will also consider the applicant's financial need, personal qualities, Christian faith and academic promise.

This scholarship is awarded to only one student at a time for the duration of their residency at St Hilda's College. The availability of this scholarship for a new student is dependent on the current recipient's decision to return to college. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

Amy R Hughes Scholarship

Value:

$6,000 for one year. May be extended subject to satisfactory progress.

Criteria:

Offered to non metropolitan students of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at a College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus a satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

One scholarship will be awarded annually. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

Rural Opportunity Scholarship for Women and men

Value:

25% of the College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda College.

Criteria:

Offered to rural students of the University of Melbourne, with a preference for students studying science, who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

Two scholarships will be awarded annually, one for a female and one for a male. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application. A written application is required.

Nell and mabel cooper scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Offered to a rural student of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

Pam todd scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Offered to a rural student of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on academic results and demonstrated financial need.

Brian James scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Offered to a rural Victorian student of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

Marjorie Smart scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Offered to a rural student of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

Barbara Green scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Offered to a female, rural student of the University of Melbourne who plans to study a Bachelor of Arts and who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

Lady alice paton scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Offered to a rural student of the University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at St Hilda’s College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of  satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need, alongside evidence of a background in community volunteering.

Helen and val Brown Bursary

Value:  $2,500

Criteria:

Awarded to a first year female student taking into account financial need.

Applications will be called for during Semester 1.

St Hilda's College sports scholarship

Value:  $10,000

Criteria:

Applications from rural or regional Australia, will be required to apply to St Hilda's College and meet the following criteria. 

Have nominated St Hilda's College at the time of application

Made a written application that demonstrates their suitability for the scholarship using the nominated St Hilda's College scholarship and financial needs application forms

Undertaken an interview process, as determined by the Principal

Are a new or returning student enrolled in an undergraduate course at the University of Melbourne. 

A student is deemed to come from rural or regional Australia if they completed their secondary schooling whilst living in a location not defined as a major city by the Australia Standard Geographical Classification Remoteness Areas classification. Postcodes will be used to assess rural status. 

The final decision on the scholarship recipients will be made by the Principal. 


Academic Excellence Scholarships for returning undergraduate students

Miller College Exhibition Scholarship

Value:  $4,450

Criteria:

All second year students at St Hilda's College who have achieved an average GPA equal to or greater than 80 for the year. 

No application is required to be considered for this award.

Moore Senior Scholarships

Value:  $4,800

Criteria:

All third year students at St Hilda's College who have achieved an average GPA equal to or greater than 80 for the year. 

No application is required to be considered for this award.

Susan Holmes Travelling Scholarship

Value:  $4,000

Criteria:

The scholarship provides financial assistance for the purpose of travel that will provide the recipient with a developmental learning opportunity. The award will be made to a resident of St Hilda's College completing their studies this year.

Written applications will be called for during the second semester.

The Communitas Prize

Value:   $5,000

Criteria:

For the student who has done the most to support and advance the ideals of service, leadership and teamwork in the College and wider community while also achieving academic success. Awarded by the Principal in semester 2.

The Anne Wischusen Prize

Value:  $1,000

Criteria:

For the returning female student with the best results from the previous year.

No application is necessary for this award.

The John Harper Prize

Value:  $1,000

Criteria:

For the returning Commerce student with the best results from the previous year.

No application is necessary for this award.

The Fellows Prize

Value:  $1,000

Criteria:

For the returning student with the best results from the previous year.

No application is necessary for this award.
